The son of Orson and Caroline (Clarke) Seymour of New York, he married Mary Eliza Cleveland, and they lived in California, New York, and in Cleveland, Ohio, where she died in 1857. He then married Christina (Ferguson) Seymour in Ohio. They came to Los Angeles in the 1870s, and he operated a nursery business with a house on West Adams Street. Father of Caroline, Orson and Harriet Seymour. Brother of noted social reformer Caroline Seymour Severence, they were partners in a land development company in San Bernardino County.
