Former Anderson County constable
James Q. Webber Sr., 84, of Clinton, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
He was a member of Local No. 102 of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union for 50 years. He was also a deputy sheriff from 1966 to 1976, a First District constable in Anderson County from 1976 to 1990, a captain of Reserve Police in Clinton for four years, a member of Lodge No. 25 of the Fraternal Order of Police in Clinton, and a member of the Tennessee Law Enforcement Association and the AARP. He was a former member of the Civil Air Patrol and an amateur radio operator with the call letters WA4KDY.Born Oct. 3, 1918, in Clinton, he was the son of Luther W. and Grace Webster Webber, who are now deceased.Mr. Webber is survived by his wife of 67 years, Nana Belle Smith Webber; his sons, retired Col. James Q. Webber Jr. and his wife, Bobbie, of Chattanooga, and Gerald D. Webber and his wife, Sandra, of Clinton; his daughters, Phyllis Ann Robbins and her husband, Mace, of Danforth, Maine, and Brenda Sue Schluter and her husband, Roy, of Centerville, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, Rick Sheehan and Greg Sheehan, both of South Windsor, Conn., Bryan Sheehan of Ellington, Conn., Sonya Holbrook and Regina Loy, both of Clinton, Lt. Col. James "Jay" Q. Webber III of Fort Hood, Texas, Shawn Schluter, Todd Schluter and Lance Schluter, all of Centerville, Ohio, Darrin Schluter of Raleigh, N.C., and David Webber of Jacksboro; 10 great-grandchildren; and his brothers, Ed Webber of Lake City and L.W. "Ronchie" Webber of Clinton.The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton. The Rev. Herschel Barrington and the Rev. Joe Bridges will officiate.A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens in Claxton.The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
