Civil War Union Army Officer, US Congressman. Served in the Civil War as an officer in the 7th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, rising from Captain and commander of Company H to Lieutenant Colonel. His severe wounded at the 2nd Battle of Winchester facilitated his resignation from the Army. He later served as Colonel and commander of the 171st Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He was elected to represent Missouri's 7th District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1869 to 1871. Also served as a Delegate to the Republican National Convention from Missouri in 1868.
