He was born November 1, 1908, in Raleigh County, a son of the late Daniel Owen and Josephine (Trail) Covey.
His wife, Margaret Elizabeth Bailey Covey, whom he married March 2, 1935, preceded him in death, August 22, 1998.
Surviving are son Thomas H. Covey, Jr. and wife Hope of Morgantown; daughters: Myra Jo White and husband Thomas of Fort Ashby and Sharon Lindsey and husband Billy of Parkersburg; Grandchildren, Joda Covey Fogerson, Emily Covey Kiral, Mya White Fields, Kathie White Whiteman, Joy White Linthicu, Kristen Lindsey, and Jeffrey Lindsey; seven great-grandchildren; and two faithful neighbors who watched over him, Roberta Springston and Andy Sleigh.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Mr. Covey was part owner and a salesman at the former Gregg Grocery in Weston. Prior to his retirement, he was a wholesale salesman for Fulks Brothers Sporting Goods in Clarksburg. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Weston and Weston Masonic Lodge 10 AF&AM. He was an All State football player at Woodrow Wilson High School and a charter member of the Woodrow Wilson Sports Hall of Fame. He played football and baseball for the West Virginia University Mountaineers and was an avid WVU sports fan. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 25, 1991 at the Floyd Funeral Home, with Rev. Rick Farmer officiating. Interment followed in the Weston Masonic Cemetery. Graveside rites were accorded by Weston Masonic Lodge No. 10 AF&AM.
