Evelyn Elizabeth Brill, passed away Thursday, April 1, 2010, at 100 years of age. She was born November 20, 1909, and attended the Oklahoma City public schools, where she graduated from Central High School in 1927.

Evelyn received her Bachelor of Arts from Central State Teacher's College in 1930 and her Masters of Education from the University of Oklahoma in 1939 alongside her beloved sister, Lucille. She also did post-graduate work at the University of California at Los Angeles, Denver University and Colorado State College of Education in Greeley, Colorado.

Proud of her family's legacy of faith, dating back to her grandfather's role in the establishment of the first German speaking Methodist church in Oklahoma City, she was a faithful member of Wesley United Methodist Church until transferring her membership to St. Luke's United Methodist Church on Easter Sunday in 1935 and was a faithful member of St. Luke's until her death.

Evelyn was an educator and principal in the Oklahoma City public schools for over 39 years. During her career in education, she taught at Washington Elementary, Lincoln Elementary, Zachary Taylor Elementary and in the Irving School, where she was a demonstration teacher for other elementary teachers. Evelyn assumed the principalship of Zachary Taylor Elementary in 1950 and served as a principal there and in Creston Hills Elementary, Madison Elementary, Edgemere Elementary and Belle Isle Elementary until her retirement in 1970. She was married to Ralph A. Borah from their wedding on June 14, 1952, until his death in 1980. She later married Kenneth W. Brill, an acquaintance from more than sixty years earlier, in Denver on November 20, 1997. Kenneth preceded Evelyn in death in 2003.

Active in aviation education, Evelyn was a delegate to the National Civil Aeronautics Education Workshop in Washington, D.C., and Atlantic City, New Jersey, and was a member of the Aviation Education Council. She contributed to the book, Adventures in Aviation Education. As a career educator, she was a member of Kappa Kappa Iota professional sorority, the American Association of University Women, and the Alpha Omicron Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, national honor society in education. Evelyn loved music, art, drama, history and gardening and was a life member of the Oklahoma Historical Society.

In addition to her husbands, Ralph Borah and Kenneth Brill, and her sister, Lucille Roehr, Evelyn was preceded in death by her sister, Frances Cornelia, who died in infancy, and her parents, Richard Theodore Roehr and Sophia Katherine Roehr.

Evelyn is survived by members of the family of her late husband, Kenneth Brill, including his son, Gary, and wife, Janet, of North Carolina; grandson, Greg, and wife, Christie, and family of Denver, Colorado; and grandson, Greg, of Fort Worth, Texas. She is also survived by cousins: Frances Jenkins of Oklahoma City and her family; and Diane Hutton and husband, Ira, of Enid, and their family; as well as many loving friends including fellow residents and employees at Epworth Villa, her home since 1991, and former students and fellow educators too numerous to mention. Mindful of her faith in God through Jesus Christ and her often spoken farewell: Evelyn, bye for now!

A graveside service will be held at Fairlawn Cemetery on Wednesday, April 7. Memorial donations are suggested to St. Luke's United Methodist Foundation or to the Epworth Villa Benevolent Fund.
