Dr. Orville Ballard (1896-1972) was the Senior Resident Physician at Waverly Hills Tuberculosis Sanitorium for 31 years. He was the first to be recognized in a new awards program by Howard University alumni for his distinguished public service. He was one of first African American physicians to be appointed to the faculty of the University of Louisville Medical School, making him one of the first African Americans to be appointed to the faculty of a white medical school in the south.
