She was born April 6, 1941 in Randolph, Kansas to the late Karl and Helen Axelton.
Karlene married Robert Schmidt on May 30, 1959 in Mnhattan, Kansas and moved to Indiana shortly thereafter.
A beautiful woman, she touched the lives of many. She was a devoted member of the Avon United Methodist Church for 46 years, a volunteer at IU West Hospital, a medical transcriptionist at Mid-West Neurological for 20 years, a Cub Scout Den Mother and Miss Merchant's Bank 1960.
Her interests included gardening, quilting, needlework, bicycling, playing piano and reading.
She is survived by her husband, Robert; her boys: Eric, Thor (Diana), Dane (Kim), Kyle (Tammy) and Raud (Kandy); her grandchildren: Matthew (Ashley), Kristen, Brenton, Nchole, Kassey, Trevor, Levi and William; her great grandchildren: Avyanne and Jacob; and her brother, Glen.
