Decedant was 66 years of age and made home in this city many years

Rock City; ILL; Aug 23 ----- (special).------- Franklin M. Hufford, a resident of this community for the past nine years and formerly a well known resident of Freeport, died early this morning as a result of injuries sustained about 6 o'clock last evening when he was thrown from a wagon while riding between Dakota and Rock City. Mr Hufford was enrout home when his team became frightend at a passing C; M, & St. P train and started to run away. The driver was thrown from the wagon and sustained injuries which caused his death. He was unconscious when aid arrived and he never regained consciousness. The injured man was picked up by Oscar Metnert, the accident having occured near the home of the latter. Just what were his injuries is not known. An inquest was conducted this morning by coroner E. A. Diestelmeter, of Freeport. Decedent was born at Wilks-Barre, Pa Aug 16, 1853. He came west thirty-one years ago, settling in Wisconsin. He then moved to Illinois about twenty-nine years ago,living at Freeport for a period of twenty years. Nine years ago he moved to a farm two miles southeast of Rock City where he and his family has since resided. He was married forty-five years ago to Miss Anne E. Derr The following children survive Mary, Cora, Louis, Edward, Catherine, Robert , Harry, William and Mrs Mabel Thoren."
