Charles Henry Pirch age 89 of Holden, Missouri passed away July 8, 2011 at the Veteran's Home in Warrensburg.

He was born June 8, 1922 in Henrietta, Missouri to Mollie Borchers and George A. Pirch.

He grew up in the Richmond area and attended school there. In his late teens he worked on Irvin Windsor's farm which was located near Pittsville.

In 1941 Henry joined the Army Air Corps. He was stationed in Charters Towers, Australia until 1945. He was honorably discharged as a Private First Class.

After arriving home, he married Fern Evaleen Cooper of Coperas Cove, Texas on December 24, 1945.

He drove trolleys for Kansas City to earn money to buy his own farm southeast of Holden.

When Henry wasn't farming, he hauled cars from Detroit to Kansas City for Jack Cooper Transport.

He sold the farm and bought the Chilhowee Lumber Yard. Later, he owned the drugstore in Urich and then moved back to Holden.

From 1965 to 1968 Henry was the Johnson County Deputy Sheriff.

In 1968 he became Holden's Postmaster and served until his retirement in 1986. After retiring he returned to his favorite pastime, farming. He also enjoyed hunting and traveling.

Henry and Fern traveled to all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and Australia.

In 1997, Fern passed away and later that year, he married Ruth McClain.

In 2010, he moved into the Missouri Veteran's Home in Warrensburg. He had the opportunity of going to Washington D.C. with the Honor Flight program in the summer 2010.

He was a member of the Holden American Legion for 62 years and the Holden VFW Post 5844. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and the National Association of Postmasters of the United States. Henry was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Holden.

Henry was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Fern Pirch, his wife of 11 years Ruth Pirch; two brothers Herman A. Pirch, J. Paul Pirch, and his sister Bertha Mae Spielbusch.

Survivors include two sons: Ricky Pirch and wife Pam of Holden and Garry Pirch and his wife Cindy of Vandalia, Missouri. One daughter, Mary Kaess of Pitman, New Jersey and one step-daughter Mary Jo Sisk and her husband Bill of Holden; three granddaughters: Nikki Pirch of Holden, Gina Matsyik and Danielle Pirch of Cape Girardeau; five step -grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2011 at Williams Funeral Chapel in Holden with Rev. Jeremy Redhair officiating.

Burial will be in Holden Cemetery, with Military Graveside Honors by Holden Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #5844 and American Legion, Munday-Hancock Post #90.

Pallbearers will be Bill Sisk, Blake Sisk, Daniel Sisk, Gary Burden, Lloyd Sisk, and Tom Pirch.
