She was the daughter of Charles Henry Joy and Marie Louise Mudge. She married Cyrus West Field II M.D. on June 10, 1902 in Groton, Massachusetts and they appear on the 1920 census together. They divorced between 1920 and 1929, as Edith is listed on the 1930 census in Dartmouth, Massachusetts as a divorced head of household. Living with Edith is a widowed lodger named Margaret "Daisy" Fischer. By the 1940 census, these two ladies are still found living together, but now in Norwalk, Connecticut. Since they are also buried here in this cemetery in the same plot, it could be assumed that their relationship may have been more than friendship, having lasted up until Daisy's death in 1953.
