Obituaries of Green Co. Ky. Vol. 6, compiled by Eunice Montgomery Wright, p. 250
Funeral services were conducted Tues afternoon 17 Jan [1933] at 2 o'clock at the family burial grounds for Elam Leopold Vance, one of Green County's oldest and most respected citizens. His death occurred Mon morning, 16 Jan at 5 o'clock, at his home in Eve, Ky. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Wright. His age was 76 years.
Mr. Vance had been ill for several weeks with a slight attack of the grippe, but was apparently getting along all right until Sunday night when he began to have smothering spells and complain of his heart. He apparently realized the end was near and summoned his children to his bedside. He suffered but very little before the end came Monday morning.
Mr. Vance was a devout member of the Quisenberry Chapel Methodist Church where he was a faithful servant and regular attendant for many years prior to his death. He conducted a general store at Eve for a number of years and had many friends all over Green and Hart Counties who will mourn his passing.
He is survived by his widow, Miss Ada Vance, 4 children by his first wife Nannie A. [nee] Cantrell before her marriage - Mr. Everett Vance of Louisville, Mr. Leslie M. Vance of Louisville and Ill., Mrs. A.S. Cole of Campbellsville and Mrs. Minnie Womac of Ill.
Eleven children by his last wife, Mr. Charlie Vance of Powder Mills, George Vance of Lobb, Sanford, Leo, Jr., and Carl Vance of Eve., Mrs. Less Scott, Mrs. Goebel Reynolds and Miss Odell Vance of Eve. Mrs. Roscoe Ragland of Elizabethtown, Mrs. William Close of Louisville, Mrs. Paul Durham of Mac; 3 children, Hattie, Ollie and an infant preceded him to the grave several years ago. He is also survived by 1 brother Mr. Willie Vance of Eve; and a number of grandchildren.
