Marvin Louis Bruno Becker passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2010, at Town & Country Manor in Boerne, TX at the age of 98.

Born in Van Raub, TX on February 25, 1912, to Joseph and Katherina Friedericke Jacobina Krueger Becker, Marvin moved with his parents and siblings to Waring, TX. On his father's ranch (which was later sold and today is known as Mac Mar Ranch,) he grew up learning to enjoy hunting and fishing when not attending the Waring School with his best buddy, Herbert "Happy" Treiber.

As an adult, he raised Angora goats, broke horses for others and supplemented his income through trapping varmints and selling their pelts to local fur traders. For a period of ten months, he was stationed in New Mexico in the Glenwood area constructing telephone lines with the Civilian Conservation Corp, better known as the CCC.

His love of dancing led him to the old dancehall at Anhalt, TX. And there she was, the gal who would become the love of his life! Elsie Mae Rahm just happened to be singing as substitute soprano for her mother who was a member of the Boerne Choral Club. He swept her off her feet as they glided across the floor, dancing most of the evening together. Through a series of letters simply addressed to "Elsie Mae Rahm, Boerne, TX," a courtship blossomed and resulted in their marriage at St. John Lutheran Church in Boerne on January 28, 1940.

Later, with little Allen and Mary, they worked as managers at the summer home and place of a San Antonio businessman in Boerne, which was located at the end of Pfeiffer road. After four years, they bought land on John's Road and began building a home, later removing it to make way for IH-10. To support his family, now including Juliana Mae and Elizabeth, Marvin worked as a pump mechanic for 16 years at Louis Bergmann & Sons well drilling company. Later, he developed a business selling and applying roof coating. Also, he did many carpentry and masonry jobs around the Boerne area.

Almost every May and October, the bi-annual Alhalt events found him swinging Elsie and his daughters around the best dance floor in Texas. Hunting, fishing, and gardening were other enjoyments in his life. His work ethic and journey through the Great Depression reflected onto his children as he taught them by good examples the value of tenacity and frugality. He remained very strong and agile well into his 80's.

Marvin was preceded in death by: his parents, his only brother Joe Becker, and five sisters; Clara Frieda Becker Heimann, Emma Becker Ischar, Hilda Becker Moldenhauer, Katherine Lena Sophia Becker Jones and Linda Agetha Ida Becker Shaw who reached the age of 101. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Elsie. Also a son, Arthur Allen Becker and spouse Carole Creel Becker, as well as three daughters and their spouses; Mary Louise and Harry Seidensticker, Juliana Mae and Gerald Ray, and Elizabeth and Charles Daggett. Additionally, 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren survive him.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 15, 2010, from 5-7 PM at Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home. The Funeral will be Thursday, September 16, 2010, at 1 PM. Interment will follow at the Boerne Cemetery. Pallbearers are Ryan Seidensticker, Brogan Seidensticker, Christopher Stahla, Bryan Mauldin, Morgan Becker, Miles Encinas, and Honorary Alex Seidensticker. Memorials may be sent to St. John Lutheran Church, 315 E. Rosewood Ave., Boerne, TX 78006, or a charity of your choice.
