Deaths in Terre Haute—Mary Patrick age fifty, died Tuesday
Decade of birth seems incorrect in newspaper, though in those days, women were sometimes chary about their age. Even in the 1970's, a woman in our town had ordered a tombstone in advance, but had the mortuary turn the stone while waiting at the shop so that her birth year would not be displayed to passing motorists. There was a certain amount of chuckling around the bridge tables when that came out.
Year of birth is incorrect on death certificate (1887). It is correct on her marriage record to David J Etling (1876) and is consistent with her listing in the 1880 census as a 3 year old.
