On 23 Mar 1882 James married Martha Whitlock in Greene Co., OH. Martha died in 1917 and is probably buried in Cherry Grove. James and Martha were childless.


His sister Anna was married to William Lindsay who served as his company's First Sergeant.

He was a son of James C. Braselton.
