Mahlon was the 8th of 11 children of Eli and Harriet Iden. He was probably born in Knox County. Mahlon was drafted in the Civil War, was assigned to the Sixty-fifth Ohio volunteer infantry, and mustered into the service November 11, 1862. He was mustered out of Company H, 65th Infantry Regiment Ohio on 08 August 1863 in Hillsboro, TN. On May 18, 1865, Mahlon married Orinda Jane (Jennie) Boone in Morrow County, OH and they were the parents of one known child, Eugene Wilson, born Nov. 16, 1869 in Ohio. Mahlon was living with Eugene and his family in 1900 at Wayne Township, Knox, OH and it is thought that is where he died a year later.
