Miriam Adelia Carling was born 8 December 1889, in a small frame home in Orderville, Kane County, Utah, on her family's farm. She attended school in the small, three-room town school in Orderville. In 1899, she attended school in Mexico, at the Juarez Academy, where she met her future husband, Lucius Clark. Adelia and Lucius married after graduating, in 1911. Lucius taught school for a short time after graduating, in Mexico, however, the couple had to flee Mexico at the time of the Mexican Revolution. After staying with relatives for a short time in Idaho, the couple managed to move in to their own place. Lucius worked hard teaching school during fall through spring, then worked at odd jobs during summer, to support his family, which grew to include seven children. The family worked and lived in Idaho, then Montana, and back to Idaho. Lucius and Adelia raised their family through all the years of the Great Depression. Two of Adelia's sons served in the US Military during WW II. Despite the struggles they endured, Adelia and Lucius found happiness in their family. The couple often entertained at family reunions and nursing homes, playing duets on the guitar and mandolin, which they learned to play in their youth. Adelia passed away at age 96, in her daughter's home in Provo, Utah County, Utah.
