Beloved husband of Mary C (nee East) Howenstein; dear father and father-in-law of Deborah (Dale) Miller, Jerri (Neil) Cerrato, Michael (Terry McCain), Robert (Lisa Coppedge), & Joseph Howenstein; dear grandfather of Erin, Alan, & Diane Miller, Brian, Abby, Jacob & Benjamin Howenstein, Gene, Neil, & Angela Cerrato; dear great-grandfather of Neil, Jr., Jennifer & Chris; dear brother of Harold (Yolanda) & Richard (Linda) Howenstein; dear brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle, cousin, & friend.
Gene retired as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Central Hardware. He was the first voice of "Mr. Tinker" on KMOX Radio. Gene began his career at Vonneguts Hardware in Indianapolis. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean Conflict.
Funeral from the Ortmann-Stipanovich Funeral Home, 12444 Olive Blvd., St. Louis, Fri. Jan. 24, 9:30 a.m. to St. John Bosco Catholic Church for 10 a.m. Mass. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery.
