Oldest child of 7 born to John Felix Huie and Martha Lou Regan. Iva and later in life Ms. Ivy as she was called sometimes, was married twice, she had 6 children with William Kingsley and 6 girls with Rufus Spradlin, plus 7 stepchildren from her 2nd husband. She would tell the story of the old days. She loved her Papa and thought the world of him. She used to work out in the fields with him, and she would ride in the single roadster cart and was quite good at it. In 1920, when she was married to William and just days after having their son, she went through a tragic ordeal of losing him to suicide, in which later she told of having to clean up after and how it made her feel. Then just days afterwards lost her home to a fire, whilst the family was out visiting family. So, with 6 young children and no home, you can only image the struggle. All of which is what made her a strong willed woman. She met her 2nd husband in 1922 and married thereafter. She was married to Rufus until his death in 1955. She continued to move forward until her death in 1983 from pneumonia. She was in sound mind and spirit till the very end. For her 90th Birthday she received a letter and picture from President Ronald Reagan. Little did she know, they were relations originated from Ireland. Her most memorable saying. "Awwww, shhhhhh and nothing tasted better than fixin's from Grandma Iva's kitchen, whether her biscuits and gravy, coconut cake, pineapple upside down cake, or a big o' pot of beans. No one could ever come exact to her fixin's. When Grandma Iva left this world, that was the end of the family, for she was the glue that held us together.
