Evangeline Reina Baca Gallegos, age 77, of Belén, NM, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2011.
Evangeline was born in Belén to Elfego and Florela (Castillo) Baca. Evangeline and husband, Buddy were involved in World Wide Marriage Encounter for 16 years. Evangeline was an Eucharistic minister bringing communion to shut-ins, and was active in the parishes of Holy Ghost, Bluewater Lake, Immaculate Conception of Las Vegas and San Clemente.
Evangeline and Buddy introduced weekends of Christian Living to the Communities of Española and Taos. Evangeline and Buddy were co-chairs of Catholic Social Services for the Archdiocese of Santa Fé.
Evangeline won numerous first prizes in baking and sewing at the New Mexico State Fair. Evangeline was a cub scout den mother for years when her boys were young. Evangeline was a constant volunteer at Roadrunner Food Bank during the time that Buddy was its Director. Evangeline is survived by her husband, Rosendo "Buddy" Gallegos, sons, Ross Gallegos and James and his wife, Ann Gallegos, grandchildren, Jason Gallegos and his wife, Diana, Anne Catherine, Ross Jr., Christian, Jake, Veronica, Andrew, Rosendo, Catherine, David, María, Thomas, Elizabeth, Robert, Joseph and Maximiliano Gallegos, Monique Fellows and great-grandchild, Sean Gallegos, sisters, Pauline García and her husband, Bob García, Norena Castillo and her husband, Philip Castillo, brother, George Baca and his wife, Ginny Baca and numerous nieces and nephews.
Evangeline was preceded in death by sons, Ronald, Robert and Michael. Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. and mass of the resurrection on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at 12:00 p.m., both at San Clemente Catholic Church in Los Lunas, NM. Interment will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at 2:15 p.m. at Santa Fé National Cemetery, Santa Fé, NM.
