Geronimo "Jerry" G. Aranda passed away peacefully at home in Santa Fé, NM on April 23, 2009, surrounded by his family, after a courageous bout with cancer.
Jerry G. was a life long resident of Santa Fé, NM, born on December 12, 1925 in Cerrillos, NM.
Jerry G. was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary O. Aranda, parents, Hilario and Cleofas Aranda, brother, Eulogio Aranda and sisters, Mary, Bessie, Josie and Francis.
Jerry G. was married in Fort Bliss, Texas on March 18, 1914 to Mary Ortiz Aranda.
Jerry G. was a member of the United States Army from February 14, 1944 to January 29, 1946, serving his country during World War II.
After leaving the military, Jerry G. worked for Cartwright's as a plumber and eventually started his own business, Jerry G. Plumbing & Heating. Jerry G. was an avid golfer, fisherman, hunter and bowler.
When he retired he enjoyed golfing, making his first hole in one at the Ladera Golf Course in 1988.
Mostly, Jerry G. enjoyed spending time with his family, especially those special events such as his birthday celebrations lit by luminarias and the family's attempts of singing/humming Las Mananitas and even up to his last Christmas, handing out gifts to his children with tags that read "from Mom & Dad" and sitting next to Santa, while seeing his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren receive their gifts.
Jerry G. is survived by his children, son, Phillip Aranda and his wife, Cecilia, daughters, Rebecca Álvarez, Geraldine Hicks and her husband, Richard, Olivia Vigil and her husband, Ernie, Perla Aranda, Deloisa Aranda-Trujillo and her husband, Michael and Christina Aranda Martínez and her husband, Paul and 38 grandchildren, Monica, Elaine, Denise, Andy, Barbara, Ray, Richard, Sha, Steven, Bonnie, Jerry, Michelle, Paul, Minnie, Jessica, Travis, Stephanie, Andrew, Janelle, Robert, Linda, David, Georgia, Robert, Carl, Jaclyn, Andrew, María, Brian, Renee, Jessica, Johnathan, Heather, Patrick, Jeremy, Erica, Andrea and Ryan. Also surviving him are 37 great-grandchildren and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Reynaldo and Stella Ortiz of Albuquerque, Gene and Rosina Clayton, Valentina Ortiz and Helen Ortiz and many nieces and nephews.
His family wishes to extend a special thank you to our cousin, Larry Roybal for his untiring attention to and affection for our father.
A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 27, 2009 at Santa María de la Paz Catholic Church. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 also at Santa María de la Paz Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Santa Fé National Cemetery, Santa Fé, NM.
