Elmer L. Cahill, 53, local electrical contractor, was found dead in his bed Saturday morning when people in the home where he roomed failed to hear him at the accustomed rising time.

Mr Cahill had gone to Missouri several weeks ago to perform a contract on a new building. He has been going back and forth weekends, as did the local men who worked for him. He had been warned by his doctor to use precaution because of heart ailment. The coroner at Fairfax estimated he died at 4:30 am.

The funeral service was held Monday afternoon at the Walker Funeral home in charge of Rev Vernon Carter, pastor of the local Christian church. Burial was in Clarinda cemetery.

Eight children and his wife survive also four brothers and a sister. The home has been at 508 east Stuart for many years. CLARINDA HERALD-JOURNAL, Clarinda, Iowa, Feb 14, 1949


Emer Louis Cahill, son of Albert and Alice Cahill, was born at Langdon, Mo, April 13, 1895, and died at Fairfax, Mo, February 12, 1949, at the age of 53 years, 9 months and 29 days.

His early childhood was spent in the family home at Eldon, Ia. The family later moved to Bedford, Ia.

On July 1, 1915, he was united in marriage to Florence Douglas, and to this union nine children were born. Eva, Mrs Boyd Foster; Maxine, Mrs Norman Peterson; Martha, Mrs Wendell Williams; Donald; Catherine, and Richard Lee, all of Clarinda; Bettie, Mrs Charles Maier of Red Oak, Ralph of Chariton; and Patricia Ann, who died in infancy.

In addition to the eight remaining children he is survived by his wife, four brothers, Ote of Eldon, Iowa; Albert of Kansas City, Mo; Alec and Robert, both of Council Bluffs; a sister, Mrs Dora Brown of Monte Belle, Calif; and seven grandchildren.

In the year 1931 the family moved to Clarinda, where for several years Mr Cahill was employed by the light company. He then went into business for himself as an electrician and at the time of his death he was electrical contractor for the Municipal hospital at Fairfax, Mo. Death came unexpectedly while he was sleeping early Saturday morning.

Funeral services were held at the Walker funeral home at 2 pm Monday, Feb 14, 1949, in charge of Rev Vernon Carter. Music was by Aletha Hutchings and Doris Forbes. The flower bearers were Nola Williams and Joan Raynor.
