ABINGDON - Richard L. Boone, 69, of 201 W. Sanitary died at 5:50 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. Born Dec. 20, 1932, in Durham Township, Hancock County, to Virgil and Ethel Buhl Boone, he married Donna M. McKee on Aug. 26, 1955, in Abingdon. She died May 20, 1995. He also was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Andrew Small; one infant daughter, Brenda Boone; and one granddaughter. Surviving are one son, William (and Ida) of McLean; two daughters, Lorna (and James) Melvin of Galesburg and Beth Ann Boone of Phoenix; three brothers, Ed (and Jan) of London Mills, Terry (and LeAnn) of Wataga and Jerry (and Jenny) of Louisa, Va.; six grandchildren; and two greatgrandchildren. A Korean War Army veteran, he was a member of Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post 381. He was a mail carrier for the Abingdon Post Office, retiring in 1987. He also attended Nixon Robinson Tax Service School in Macomb and operated Boone's Tax and Bookkeeping in Abingdon since 1968. He formerly served as an alderman for the City of Abingdon. He was a member of Abingdon Christian Church. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Hinchliff-PearsonWest Abingdon Chapel, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. The Revs. Raymond McLaren and Bob Malone will officiate. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by his American Legion post.
