Helen Ray Murphy, age 84 of Charlotte, died Tuesday December 19, 2006 in Carolinas Medical Center Mercy. She was born April 28, 1922, in Charlotte, daughter of the late Frederick C. and Helen Kidd Ray, of Charlotte. She attended O'Donoghue School and Central High School. She was a member of St Ann's Catholic Church. She served in the Women's Army Corp during World War II.
A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, December 23, 2006 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of the Sisters of Mercy Motherhouse, Belmont, NC. Visitation will precede the Mass and will be held from 10:00 to 10:45 AM. Interment will be in the National Cemetery, Raleigh, NC at a later date.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Murphy, a brother Frederick C. Ray, Jr. and a sister, Frances Ray Bagley.
She is survived by one son, Michael Murphy, of Raleigh, NC, his wife Sharon, grandchildren Joseph Murphy and Catherine Murphy of Raleigh, three great grandchildren, a sister, Sister Mary Andrew Ray, ISM of Belmont and nieces and nephews.
The family requests donations be made to the Ministries of the Sisters of Mercy at Belmont. Arrangements are in the care of Hankins & Whittington, Dilworth Chapel, 1111 East Blvd.
