James Campbell, 69, collapsed and died apparently of a heart attack Wednesday afternoon in the yard back of his home.
Investigators said Campbell had been cutting up some old tree branches for kindling when he collapsed. The coroner pronounced him dead at 3:15 p.m..
He was born Jan 22, 1896 in Salt Lake City, the son of James W. Campbell and Janet Wilson Campbell. When he was four years old, the family moved to Canada in the High River District, where he attended school and worked on his father's farm.
The family moved to Idaho Falls in 1916. He went into the Army in 1918 and served in France. At the end of the war he returned to Idaho Falls,a nd has followed the carpentry trade since.
He was married to Bessie Hines, Jan. 26, 1944 in Idaho Falls. He has been building potato cellars for farmers in the Idaho Falls area in recent years.
He is survived by his widow and the following stepchildren: Mrs. Edna Walden, Idaho Falls; Mrs. Eva Carpenter, Vancouver, B.C., Canada; Mrs. Grace Haws, Portland, Ore.; Mrs. Deen Wilkerson, Idaho Falls; Mrs. Dolly Long, Portland, Ore.; and Mrs. Winifred Hamblin, Ashland, Ore.
