Obituary. Together 57 Years in Life - Together again for the journey to Heaven. Mom and Dad both passed away within hours on April 20, 2004.

Dad was born July 30, 1921, to Harrison W. and Emma Richardson Fern. Born in Ogden but raised and educated in Smithfield, Utah. Graduated from North Cache High School and attended USU.

Mom was born September 30, 1925, in Logan, Utah a daughter of Henry Earl and Agnes Anne Erickson Bair.

Mom and Dad were married on December 30, 1946, in the Logan LDS Temple.

Harry was an intricate part of a musical group called the Rhythm Ramblers. He played the piano and accordion. He was noted and praised for his musical ability and made countless appearances. Harry served in World War II from March 1942 to November 1945. He was in the Second Infantry Division and participated in the famous Battle of the Bulge where he was a Purple Heart recipient. He loved golfing, having scored a hole in one, as well as bowling in which he scored a 300 game. He had beautiful penmanship, accounting skills, was a natural poet, had many truly remarkable musical talents. This he shared so willingly with us growing up through all our family years.

Ruth was a very honest and hard-working woman who devoted over 35 years to the medical profession. She truly loved the Gastroenterology field and her genuine passion for the welfare of her patients was well known. Her lifetime hobbies included reading, ceramics, crocheting, traveling, and the Utah Jazz. She loved cooking family dinners and the beauty of the Wasatch Mountains.

Mom and Dad were deeply committed members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have served faithfully in many callings. Among their favorites was the Employment Specialist Mission which they served at the LDS Employment Center.

Survived by their four children, Shirlene (Gary) Goodman, California; LuGene (Bob) New, West Valley City; Randall (Yong) Fern, Sandy; Peggie (Charles Mankus) Fern, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; Mom's cherished brother, Lowell (Margene) Bair, Cache Valley and finally, their beloved cat, Meow Meow.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to VistaCare Hospice and Rocky Mountain Care Center.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 24, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road where friends and family are welcome to gather from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Graveside services will be held at the Smithfield Cemetery, Smithfield, Utah at 2:00 p.m.
