A long time resident of Morgantown, WV, Elinor was born April 13, 1915, at Mountain (Mole Hill), Ritchie County, WV, a daughter of the late Isaac Lester Haymond and Florence Ottie Jones Haymond. A graduate of Pennsboro High School, she was president of the student body; and later a student at Salem College (now SIU)and a graduate of West Virginia University. A talented writer and poet, Elinor began her writing career in high school, publishing in the Pennsboro News, and continued on to national publications. She served as an officer in the local and the WV Poetry Societies, and won awards at both levels. Her book of poetry "Along The Way" commemorated her 80th birthday.
She served as a reading teacher in Monongalia County Schools, and was also a 4-H and a Girl Scout Leader. A long-time member of Westover United Methodist Church, the Friendly Service Class and Circle Three, she enjoyed activities and organizations of the church. She also was chairman of the board of Scott's Run Settlement House.
As a student of history and proud of being an American, she had over 50 years as a member of Elizabeth Ludington Hagans-Colonel John Evans Chapter of the DAR. Elinor had many talents, from a green thumb in gardening, to award winning bread baking; last year she surprised her family when she became a "Calendar Girl". She was selected as April for the Virginia Health Care Association's Who's Who calendar.
Surviving are two sons, Jennings Randall (Demaris) Bradford of Hurricane, WV, and Larry David (Rita) Bradford of Woodstock, VA; two daughters, Karen Bradford (R. Jay) Stipes of Blacksburg, VA, and Janeen Bradford of Morgantown, WV; a daughter-in-law, Judith Bradford of Cross Lanes, WV; 12 grandchildren, Kirsten (James) Sharp of Lexington, KY, Dr. Joshua (Tabitha) Bradford of Poca, WV, Jeremy Bradford of Charlotte, NC, Brad (Michele) Stipes of Christiansburg, VA, Shannon Stipes (Steve) Dixon of Apex, NC, Leah Stipes (Don) Hughes of Blacksburg, VA, Craig (Ashley) Stipes of Greenville, SC, Lori Bradford (Tim) Walroth of Hurricane, WV, Brandon Bradford of Charleston, WV,Heath D. Bradford of Williamsburg, VA, Zachary Bradford of Morgantown, WV, and Adam Hileman of Morgantown, WV; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband of 62 years, Jennings Collin Bradford; a son Carl Lester Bradford; and a sister, June Haymond Winzeler.
Her family appreciates the loving family she had at Richfield Retirement Community in Salem, VA.
Services were held Thursday, April 21st, at McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro, WV.
Interment followed in Beechwood Cemetery, Tyler County.
