He was born on Oct. 7, 1915, in Jackson County to the late Rufus Wiley and Mary Lou Eva Crabtree Smith. He was retired from Norwalk Furniture and was a member of First United Pentecostal Church.
His family includes a daughter, Marie Gentry of Cookeville; a sister, Ona Rector of Cookeville; three grandchildren, Machelle Gentry Warta, Karen Allen and Lorri Norris, all of Cookeville; six greatgrandchildren, Jeremy Greenwood, Clint and Kayla Allen, Shawn and Jesse Warta and Cerridwen Kaiding; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vallie Langford Smith; three brothers, Ben A., Elmer and Ethan Smith; four sisters, Addie Bean, Ina and Sarah Smith and Avie Lee Langford; and a grandson, Jackie T. Gentry.
