Born in Providence, the son of the late August W. and Mary G. (Osbrey) Alexander, he lived in Warwick before moving to North Kingstown 26 years ago.
A graduate of Bentley College, he was a member of the Bentley College Alumni Association.
Mr. Alexander was a US Navy Veteran serving in Iwo Jima during WWII. He also served in the Korean War.
He was a CPA for Ernst & Ernst before becoming the Vice President of Finance for Stanley Bostitch, Gorham Co., and Kenney Manufacturing before retiring. After his retirement he was the business manager for Msgr. Clarke School.
He was a member of the RI CPA Society, Wickford VFW, Fleet Tug Sailors, Iwo Jima survivors of CT and the USS Wyandot Association. He was a URI Master Gardener and volunteered at the RI Veterans Cemetery.
A communicant of St. Bernard Church, he was a former lector, Eucharistic minister and trustee. Mr. Alexander was a member of the St. Francis Council, Knights of Columbus and served as a Past Faithful Navigator for Fr. Wallace Assembly, Fourth Degree K of C.
He leaves 7 children, William E. and his wife Diane of North Kingstown, Edward J. and his wife Gail of Saugus, MA, Paul J. and his wife Corrine of Smithfield, Robert P. of Wareham, MA, Katherine E. Alexander-Hall and her husband Jeffrey of East Greenwich, John J. and his wife Rhonda of Warwick and Thomas W. and his wife Karen of Warwick; and 11 grandchildren.
His Funeral was held Wednesday from the FAGAN-QUINN Funeral Home, North Kingstown, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Bernard Church, North Kingstown. Burial with Military Honors followed in RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Association, RI Chapter, 245 Waterman St., Ste 306, Providence, RI 02906 or St. Bernard Church Building Fund will be appreciated.
