Donald Clyde Cripps, 6810 Frogtown Road, Hermitage, died at 7:39 a.m. Thursday (8-31-00) in the hospital of Jameson Health System, New Castle, of natural causes. He was 64.
Mr. Cripps was born Sept. 12, 1935, in Van Alstyne, Texas to Johnnie Clyde and Opal Alice Cripps. The 1954 alumnus of Van Alstyne High School retired in 1999 after 28 years from Sharon Tube Co., where he was a millwright.
A veteran, Mr. Cripps served during the Korean Conflict in the Air Force and National Guard. He was a member of the Charleston United Methodist Church; Veterans of Foreign Wars Hickory Post 6166, both Hermitage; and American Legion Post 432, Wheatland. As a member of Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 810 in Hermitage, Mr. Cripps served as chaplain and secretary. He also belonged to Local 1355 of United Steelworkers, where he was past vice president and financial secretary. For 12 years, Mr. Cripps coached baseball for West Middlesex Little League.
Surviving is his wife, the former Alice Louise Gelesky, whom he married Aug 25, 1956; a son, Donald Clyde II, New Wilmington; a daughter, Victoria Evelyn Sauer, West Middlesex; a sister, Suellen Dollar, Shreveport, La.; and two grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents. Masonic service at 3:30 pm Saturday in the funeral home, with Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 810, Hermitage, officiating.
