Possibly divorced before 1940 census. Arthur is found in Chicago IL in 1940 census and is shown as single. However, census errors have occured in the 1940 census for those men that travelled to other states for any kind of work following the Great Depression.
It is possible though that they actually did divorce, as I have found evidence that Arthur may have been married before to a woman named Mary, who sued for divorce from him in 1913. The two of them had a child named Benjamin, born 1908.
She kept custody of the child, and this timeline would fit with marrying Edith about early 1914.
3 children:
Betty Jane
Lucille C
Hazel Marie
