Mrs. Henrietta Rives Buchanan, 86 years of age, died at her home at 348 South Shaw street at 11:10 Tuesday night, July, 24. She was the wife of the late Dr. G. W. Buchanan.
Mrs. Buchanan was born on a farm northeast of Richmond, Febuary 15, 1848. She was the daughter of Charles Allen and Henrietta Rives Watkins.
She was married to Dr. G. W. Buchanan November 5, 1872, at the family home, "Westover Farm." One of four sons, George W. Buchanan of Richmond survives. Besides her son she leaves on sister, Mrs. R. S. Oliver of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; three granddaughters, Nettie Elizabeth Buchanan of Jefferson City, Lenore Buchanan of Richmond, and Martha Rives Buchanan of Tulsa Olka.; two grandsons, George W. and Oliver Henry Buchanan of Richmond.
Mrs Buchanan was a member of the Presbyterian church of Richmond and a leader in the Ladies' Aid Society and the Foreign and Home Mission Societies of the Presbyterian church. She was a charter member of the Brown-Rives Chapter, U. D. C. and the Allen-Morton-Watkins chapter, D. A. R.
Funeral services were held this afternoon (Thursday) from the Presbyterian church. The Rev. F. Homer Tegler conducted the services. Interment was made in Allen-Watkins cemetery southeast of Richmond.
Funeral arrangements were in charge of Mansur Funeral Home.
