Harold C. Benson, 86, of Marion, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004, at Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Born July 10, 1918, in Marion, he was the son of the late Ira and Cora (Weidner) Benson.

On Aug. 15, 1948, in Prospect, he married Dorothy (Hale) and she survives in Marion. They were married 56 years on Aug. 15.

Harold worked for the Erie Conrail Railroad for 30 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during the Korean War serving on an LCI boat. He was a life member of the VFW Post 7201, a member of the Erie veterans, the Prospect and Marion senior citizens, and St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Prospect.

He is also survived by a son, Clifford (Chip) Benson of Lancaster; two grandsons, Chad and his wife, Adrianne of New Jersey and Brian and his wife, Olivia, of Newark; two granddaughters, Karissa and Heather Clinard of Bucyrus; eight great-grandchildren, Aarron, Seth, Hanna, Joey, Lynsay, Chase, Ashton and Lindsay; a special sister-in-law, Mary Alice Fogle of Prospect and Bill Ingle, Harold Tanner and niece, Shirley Tanner and many neighbors and friends. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cora Clinard in August of 1987 and a sister, Edith Bill.

The funeral is 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, at Boyd Funeral Home with the Rev. Russell Makant officiating. Burial is in Chapel Heights Memory Gardens where military rites will be conducted by the Marion Area United Veterans Council. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Prospect or the American Cancer Society.
