U.S. Congressman. He engaged in agricultural pursuits and taught school in Hingham, Massachusetts, (1804-14). He was a member of the Massachusetts State House of Representatives, (1824-25, 27-28, 38-42) and served in the Massachusetts State Senate, (1833-34). In 1845, he was elected as a Whig to the Twenty-ninth and Thirtieth Congresses, serving until 1849. After leaving Congress, he returned to his agricultural pursuits until his death at age 98.
