Cyrus Hubert Jones, 93, of Fairfax, Mo. died Thursday, March 12, 2009 at the Community Hospital of Fairfax.
Cy was born Oct. 21, 1915 in Nodaway County. Younger years were spent there with the exception of a few years in Barton County. Cy went living on his own at a very early age, then came to Atchison County in 1935, first working 10 years on a Rankin ranch, then farming around Fairfax, making a home on his farm southwest of Fairfax, in 1957.
Cy has served on the county F.H.A. Advisory Board, Dale Township Committee, 12 years on Fairfax School Board and was currently serving as a Director of Colfax Farmers Mutual Insurance.
He was a member of the Fairfax Methodist Church and has served in numerous positions. Cy was a good Steward of the land, took pride in his farmstead and farmed until the age of 85. In his younger years he won awards in tractor rodeos and enjoyed tractor pulls till his death.
On Dec. 24, 1937, Cy was married to Mable McIntyre of Burlington Junction. They were parents of three daughters; Barbara, Joyce and Nancy. Mable passed away in 1973.
Cy and Emma (Creed) were married in 1975 and made their home on the farm southwest of Fairfax and moved into town in 2000.
Cy will be fondly remembered in his later years enjoying taking pictures for Miss Fairfax and Fairfax High School events for over 10 years. Cy attended all school activities taking pictures then giving them away, not expecting anything in return. He was honored in having a Fairfax High School annual being dedicated to him.
In August 1992, Cy and Emma were chosen to be the Parade Marshalls for the Fairfax Fair.
Mr. Jones was the last survivor of his immediate family. Preceding Mr. Jones in death were his parents, John and Elizabeth (Logan) Jones; five brothers; J. Mervin, Rayonde E., Roland D., Harmon and John B.; two sisters; Ellen Jones and Myrtle Rose; three half brothers; Richard, Benny and Sheldon; three half sisters; Roberta, Marilla and Ruth; one step-sister, Ethel; his wife, Mable and son-in-law, Scott Hawkins.
Survivors: wife, Emma of the home; daughters: Barbara (Joe) Meiners, Joyce (John) Pearce and Nancy (Bob) Irvine; step-daughter Kay (Clark) Cofer; step-son Sam (Linda) Creed; 12 grandchildren: Lora Ceperly, Jeff Pearce, Julie Weiss, J. B., Pearce, Janae Pearce, Keith Hawkins, Matt Hawkins and Brice Hawkins. Mike Creed, Tony Creed, Mark Cofer and Michelle Bliss. He is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Fairfax United Methodist Church, Saturday, March 14 at 10:30 a.m. Burial was at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Fairfax, Mo.
