Funeral for Roy E. Adams, 82, Lawton will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home Chapel with Ed Jansson, pastor of Central Baptist Church, officiating.
Mr. Adams died Thursday in a local hospital after an illness.
Burial will be in Mountain Park Cemetery.
He was born May 27, 1911, in Snyder where he grew up and lived on the family farm near there until 1934. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps for two years and also assisted in constructing Lugert Dam near Blair. On July 19, 1943, he joined the Army at Fort Sill, went to basic training at Camp Kerns, Utah, and was at Alexandria (La.) Air Base Hospital before being transferred to Colorado Springs, Colo. Mr. Adams served in Guam and the Saipan Islands with the 21st Bomber Command (B-29s). He received World War II Victory Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, AP Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and foru Bronze Stars. He was honorably discharged January 6, 1946, at Fort Chaffee, Ark.
He amrried Annette Van Ray on June 5, 1946, in Vernon, Texas. The couple lived in Texas, New Mexico and California before returning to Lawton in 1950. He was an auto mechanic until his retirement in 1973.
Mr. Adams was a member of Central Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; three sons: Michael, Corpus Christi, Texas; John, Lawton; and Rick, Oklahoma City; three daughters: Lynnette Isbell, Oklahoma City; Melody Huggins, Frederick; and Lynna Warren, Lawton; two sisters: Bess Dillingham, Grandfield; and Edna Hash, Mountain Park; eight grandchildren and a great-grandson."
