Joseph was the son of Johann Frederick and Catherine (Siegfried) Romig. His grandfather Johann Adam Romich and his father came over on the ship "Dragon" from Rotterdam and arrived on 30 Sept 1732. Only males are listed on the manifast. He married Anna Margunitha. John Romig writes, "He was resonably successful and during the Revolutionary War was accused by some local people as being a Loyalist and not in favor of the Revolution. As a result, the local government seized all of Joseph's land and possessions. Joseph left his fmaily behind with his brother, John Henry, and moved west to an area of central PA we now know as Snyder Co. Sevearl years later but before the war's end, Joseph was cleared of the accusations and returned to his family in Lehigh Co. Unfortunately, the local officials had already sold his land and possessions and chose not to reimburse Joseph. It appears that Joseph and his family returned to the snyder Co area around the end of the war and became part of the pioneer settlers of Snyder Co."
