Delmer was the second eldest of eight children. During his childhood, the family moved from Truscott to a farm in Willow, Greer County, Oklahoma.
On March 6, 1950, Delmer Lewis New married Dorothy Louise Harris. They had eight children together, then Delmer assisted Dorothy in rearing her two small children from her second marriage, and Annette and Aaron came to acknowledge Delmer as their "Daddy" as well.
During most of his adult life, Delmer resided in Wichita, Kansas until his retirement from Boeing Aircraft about 1988. At that time, he moved back to the area of his childhood home in Granite, Greer County, Oklahoma to be near his siblings.
On May 5, 1990, Delmer married Gladys Ruth Dollins Graham. They resided in Altus, Jackson County, Oklahoma until her death on March 14, 2006. Gladys had a son, Kenneth Dale Graham, from a previous marriage.
Delmer Lewis New accepted Christ as his Lord and Saviour about 1962 at Westside Freewill Baptist Church, Wichita, Kansas. He spent the remainder of his years serving God to the best of his ability. Every thought and manner was for the glory of God. He strove to instill these beliefs in his children and grandchildren.
Delmer was preceded in death by his parents, Arlie and Mary, his sisters Lillian New, Norma Sue New, Gwendolyn Maxine New McGregor, Martha Jane New Roles, and Betty Ann New Rockhold; his brother George Winford New; both wives, Dorothy and Gladys; miscarried son, twin to Rita, and son Danny Lewis New; son-in-law Richard Gibbs Sr; granddaughters Amy Michelle New and Rachel Christine Gibbs; and grandson Redeucendo Vincent New LeonGuerrero.
Delmer is survived by his brother Delvin Roscoe New; sons, Clint Adrian New and wife Sharon, and Aaron V Dunn and wife Sonya; daughters, Rita Ann New Gibbs, Susan Lorraine New Seal and husband Sonny, Helen Elizabeth New LeonGuerrero, Angela Pauline New, Denese Darlene New Thomas and husband Erik, and Annette Louise Dunn Dowdy and husband Jerry; 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, and many friends.
