John Lamar Hafford was the only child of Murray Tucker Hafford and Nettie Corenne Garrett Hafford. He was an officer in the U.S. Army, was stationed in the Panama Canal Zone and served in Europe under General Patton.
He married Catherine Marie Stevens in 1941, and they had three children: Patricia Gayle, John Steven and Mary Dale.
He was a business man who owned and operated a credit bureau with his wife, Marie. He was also a very talented carpenter, using those skills to build and maintain several apartments which they rented out.
He lived the majority of his adult life on Long Island, and had planned to retire to Florida. Tragically, cancer took his life a few months before he could realize his dream of retirement.
