George was raised and educated in Lincolnshire and came to Minto Twp. in 1865. He purchased 150 acres, lot 15, con. 12, upon which he settled, clearing the farm and becoming one of the most respected and influential citizens of the township.
While he never sought municipal honors, he held the office of School Trustee for over twenty years. He was also a consistent member of the Methodist church, and in politics was a staunch Liberal.
He married Sarah Mathieson and they were the parents of: Mrs. William Gordon, Edward, Mrs. Thomas Kerr, Joseph, George H., John and Annie.
