OBITUARY
KNOWLTON BROTHERS, DELBERT
AND WILLIAM, DIED AFTER
MOTOR ACCIDENT
Delbert and William Knowlton of Barron, brothers, were fatally injured, when a Ford touring car driven by the Knowltons, crashed into the rear of the Ford coupe of Ole Opsahl of Floan Station on the Cumberland road at midnight Sunday, about five miles west of Rice Lake, after Opsahl had stopped to let out Oscar Anderson at his home. The Ford touring car was a mass of battered wreckage after the accident, and the rear of the Ford coupe was stove in.
Immediately after the crash the coupe was found driven into the bank on the right side of the road, where it stopped, with the remains of the Ford touring car turned around and headed toward the coupe. Under the touring car lay the bleeding form of Delbert Knowlton, while between the two cars, lay William Knowlton, also bleeding. Both were uncon-scious. Oscar Anderson received a minor scalp wound.
Mr. Anderson ran to the house of Mrs. Toger Larson, a quarter of a mile west, near the Golden Valley school house, and called Dr. A. S. White of Rice lake.
Philip Falkenborg, Barron business man, passed the scene shortly after the accident, and took Delbert to St. Joseph's hospital, Rice Lake, leaving William to be cared for by the physician. When Dr. White arrived on the scene he found the unconscious form of William Knowlton lying in the road and took him to Rice Lake.
No bodily injuries or bruises were found on the Knowlton brothers, but both had suffered fractured skulls and could not live. Delbert died at 1 o'clock Tuesday morning and William at 4 o/clock Tuesday after-noon.
The funerals were held in Barron, Thursday afternoon, with interment in Wayside cemetery.
William Knowlton was single. Delbert Knowlton lost his wife several months ago and leaves three small children. He has been operating the William Patrick farm near Barron. [October 26, 1923, Barron County Shield, Barron, Wisconsin.]
