CANYON - Services for Canyon Postmaster Lee Roy Moreland, 53, of 705 Fourth Ave., will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday in First Christian Church in Canyon. The Rev. Ken Cargle, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will be in Dreamland Cemetery by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors of Canyon.
Mr. Moreland died Wednesday at his home after suffering an apparent heart attack.
A life-long resident of Canyon, Mr. Moreland was a graduate of Canyon High School and then attended West Texas State University. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Navy.
Mr. Moreland was a life member of Panhandle Heritage Foundation, a past commander of the American Legion in Canyon and past president of the Canyon Rotary Club.
He had been employed by the Canyon Post Office since 1946. He was named assistant postmaster in 1958 and postmaster in 1967. He was a life member of the National Organization of Postal Supervisors and a member of the National Association of Postmasters.
He was active in Canyon PTA, Canyon High School and scouting. He helped organize the first scout post in Canyon and was awarded the Silver Beaver Award, the highest award an adult can receive in scouting. He was on the board of directors of the Llano Estacado Boy Scout Council. He was also a coach and trainer for the Canyon Little League.
He married Mattie Louise Houpt on April 6, 1947 in Tucumcari, N.M.
Mr. Moreland is survived by his wife; two sons, Andy of Amarillo and Chris of Lubbock; his mother, Mrs. W.R. Moreland of Borger; a brother, William F. of Skellytown; and sister, Mrs. George Brain of Borger.
The family requests memorials to the Boy Scouts or the American Heart Fund.
