This is a double stone with his wife [Virgie's] name on it but she is not buried here.

Virgie Matilda Holcombe was born 8 June 1919 and died 27 August 1999 and is buried at Pisgah View Memorial Park in Candler, Buncombe Co., NC.
Willard was the son of William Ayers and Julia Loretta King.

Vergie was the daughter of Walton Tucker Holcombe and Bernice Penland.

Willard and Virgie had been separated for many years and he had been living in Detroit, Michigan. He was visiting family in North Carolina and died in a car accident just inside Tennessee on his way back home. At the time of the accident, Virgie was working at Mission Memorial Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina and Willard insisted on being transported there rather than be treated at the scene of the accident and died shrtly after arriving at the Hospital.
