Johanna Lightle, 98, of Pittsfield, IL died Friday, July 1, 2011 at Eastside Health & Rehab Center in Pittsfield. She was born September 14, 1912 in Pittsfield, the daughter of Michael Henry and Carrie Lucinda Stanbridge Brew. She married William Wayne "Freddie" Lightle on May 26, 1934 in Pittsfield and he preceded her in death on December 6, 1983. She is survived by three daughters, Kay (Gary) Straus of Quincy, IL, Carolyn Brinkman of Simi Valley, CA, and Lee (Ray) Thomas of Oxshott Surrey, England; one son, Charles Edwin (Melissa) Lightle of Houston, TX; eleven grandchildren, Terri (Tom) White, Steven (Valerie) Straus, Michael Straus, Dana Jo Glover, John (Cammie) Brinkman, Anna (David) Fruehling, Peter (Jessica) Brinkman, Matthew (Tracy) Brinkman, Jennifer (Dr. Jon) Wagnon, Heath and Rachel Lightle; eighteen great-grandchildren; nineteen great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Carolyn Bower of Pittsfield. She was preceded in death by her parents; two grandchildren, Jill Lightle and Jeremy Straus; one brother, Jeremy Brew; four sisters, Helen Brew, Kathryn Sutton, Genevieve Buvid and Loretta Woodruff; and one son-in-law, Richard Brinkman. Johanna lived in the Pike County Jail while her husband served as Sherriff and prepared meals for the inmate during that time as well. Before retirement, she worked as a secretary in the Pike County Clerk's office. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and American Legion Post 152 Auxiliary. Johanna was as avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed riverboat gambling and traveling. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 am Thursday, July 7, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pittsfield with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4-6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St. Mary's Catholic Church or American Legion Post 152.
