FAIRMONT, Minn. - Mass of Christian Burial for Adelaide E. Pehler, 97, of Fairmont will be at 11 a.m. today, Jan. 15, at the St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. Burial will follow the service in Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Fairmont. Visitation will be one hour prior to the time of service beginning at 10 a.m. today at the St. John Vianney Catholic Church.

Adelaide passed away Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, at the Fairmont Medical Center in Fairmont. The Lakeview Funeral Home of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.

Adelaide Elizabeth Pehler was born Dec. 1, 1913, to Michael and Clara (Zeller) Abts in Arcadia, Trempealeau County, Wis. She attended school at St. Aloysius Grade School and graduated from Arcadia High School.

Adelaide was employed with the Telephone Company in Arcadia until her marriage to James V. Pehler at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church on June 17, 1940. James passed away Nov. 24, 1987.

Adelaide was a member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church and St. Theresa's Circle. She was also a member of the Fairmont Medical Center Auxiliary.

Adelaide was employed at Jeff's Bakery, was hot lunch manager at St. John Vianney Catholic School

and worked at Gift Tree Hallmark. She enjoyed doing needle work and cross stitch. For the past few years, she enjoyed doing volunteer work at the Parish Center, Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center and with RSVP.

Adelaide is preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Clara Abts; four brothers, the Rev. Cletus Abts, Hilarion Abts, Bernard Abts and Linus Abts; two sisters, Marian Mills and Clarice McCutcheon; an infant brother and sister; one brother-in-law, Louis Koudelik; and one sister-in-law, Fern Abts.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, James C. Pehler and his wife, Beverly, of St. Cloud, Minn., and Judith A. Root and her husband, Dennis, of Winona; four grandsons, James F. Pehler of Sanford, Fla., Karl Pehler and his wife, Carmen, of Plymouth, Minn., Matthew Root and his wife, Carrie, of Aurora, Ill., and Christopher Root of Minneapolis; one great-granddaughter, Lauren Root of Aurora; three sisters, Marcella Specht of Schaumburg, Ill.; Iris (Richard) Yeager of Rockwell, Texas,
and Irene Koudelik of Houston, Texas; brother-in-law, Donald (Cy) McCutcheon of Wausau, Wis.; two sisters-in-law, LaVina Abts of Arcadia, and Ethel Abts Kelly of Mesa, Ariz.; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. The family requests donations be made in Adelaide's name to the St. John Vianney School Endowment Fund or other charitable organizations.
