NEWPORT NEWS - Joycelyn Smith Bagby passed away on Friday, Jan. 19, 2007, after a long illness. Born on Aug. 21, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Walter T. and Mary Williams Smith. A native of Norfolk, Va., she lived in Newport News for the last 30 years. Mrs. Bagby graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk (1959), attended the William Penn Business School in Philadelphia, Pa., and the Omaha (NE) Public School of Practical Nursing. She retired in 2005 after a 40-year career as an LPN. She was a member of World Victory Church and Life Center of Newport News and Zeta Amicae of Hampton/Newport News. Mrs. Bagby is survived by her husband, Clarence Bagby; two daughters, Thomasine Dixon of Centreville, Va., and Stephanie Tomlinson (Alex) of Newport News; a twin sister, Marilyn Williamson of Norfolk, Va.; a cousin, Elva Williams Hunt of Newport News, Va.; nine stepchildren; several cousins; and a host of friends. A service of thanksgiving will be held at noon Wednesday, Jan. 24, at World Victory Church, 5900 Jefferson Avenue. Arrangements by Carter Funeral Home-Denbigh, Newport News, Va.
