Lawrence E. Butler

WILLIAMSBURG - Lawrence E. Butler, of Patriots Colony Dr., Williamsburg, died Thursday Aug. 27, 2009 at home.

He was a native of Suffolk, Va. He attended Virginia Military Institute and was a graduate of University of Alabama and Boston University. He retired from the U.S. Army June 30, 1974, attaining the rank of Colonel after 24 years of service. His last service assignment was Fort Monroe, Va.

He loved travel, good food, and the beach.

Larry is survived by his wife of 57 years, Margaret Jessup Butler, native of South Hill, Va.; two sons, James Butler of Fairfax Va., and Ralph Butler of Chesapeake, Va.; two daughters, Mary Mitchell of Alpharetta, Ga., and Priscilla Tyndall of Paris, Texas; and 12 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday Sept. 1, at Patriots Colony in Williamsburg, Va. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept 2, at the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Va.
