NATIVE OF FRIESLAND IN THE NETHERLANDS PASSES AWAY
____________
(contributed)
Garret Levey was born in Norra Friesland, Netherlands on the 27th day of July, 1867, and passed away on Friday, February 11th, 1938, at the home of his children, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Koopmans, at the age of 70 years, six months and 17 days.
At the age of 23 years, he decided to leave his native land and arrived in the vicinity of Friesland, Wis., on April 7th, 1891. On December 2nd, 1893, he was married to Winnie Kok. To this union seven children were born - Mrs. Joe Koopman, John Levey, Mrs. Peter De Vries, Mrs. Garret Menema, William Levey, Mrs. John Alsum and Garret Levey, Jr.
Mr. Levey expeirenced many sorrows in his life. Last year, while suffering from illness and the bodily weakness incident thereto, a daughter, Mrs. Garret Minema, passed away in August. Previous to that he had lost two faithful companions - his first wife, the mother of his children, who passed away March 25th, 1919 , and whose loss he felt very keenly; and his second wife, Mrs. Elsie Verdevelt, to whom he was married two years after his first wife's death and who was his companion for fifteen years. She passed away April 26, 1936.
Mr. Levey made his confession of his faith in his Savior on May 16, 1901, and for almost thirty-seven years had been a faithful member of the First Reform church of Friesland and had attended all its services as long as his health permitted; and had continued to take great interest in the welfare of the church, even though he could not always attend services. His hope was that in the spring he could worship in his church with God's people, but God called him to a better and higher service.
Deceased leaves on e brother, six children and eighteen grandchildren to mourn his departure.
Funeral services were conducted at the First Reform church of Friesland, by Rev. Lubbers, on Tuesday afternoon, February 15. rev. Lubbers spoke in two languages - the first in the Dutch language, taking as his text, Gen. 49:18: "I have waited for Thy salvation, O Lord", and then in the English language, using the second verse of the 42nd Psalm, whereupon he explained the soul's desire for the Living God; and he impressed upon the mids of Mr. Levey's grandchildren to remember their grandfather as a man who had such a desire.
-----
Asleep in Jesus is our father,
From all earthly pain set free.
Oh, the joy of that morning
When our Lord we shall see.

Children, grandchildren, brother,
He has found a sweet release.
When he heard his Savior's call
"Com unto Me, I give thee peace."

With a smiling sweet goodbye
Ere he left this earthly shore.
Our dear father is now happy
With the angels evermore.
