A memorial mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Rock Island. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Wheelan Funeral Home, Rock Island, where a rosary will be recited at 2:30 p.m. Mass offerings may be made in John's name or memorials given to a favorite charity.
Mr. Murphy was born July 2, 1911, in Chicago, the son of William and Margaret Roche Murphy. He married Dorothy Courtney in Chicago, and she preceded him in death. John later married Marcella A. "Bette" Kale Kehoe Aug. 4, 1956, in Rock Island.
Mr. Murphy received his Juris Doctor from the Loyola University School of Law. He had worked for the International Harvester Corp. for 39 years, having served as manager of manufacturing in the overseas division and earlier serving as works manager at International Harvester, East Moline Works. He retired in 1971.
John was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Rock Island.
Survivors include his wife, Bette; daughters and a son-in-law, Kay Ellen Wohlers, Davenport, and Naomi F. and Vincent Tracey, Davenport; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by daughters, Marcella M. Brown and Judith Ann Tracey, and a sister, Marion Dougherty.
