He attended the public schools of Attala County, MS.
At an early age, he accepted Christ and united with the Friendship Baptist Church in McCool, MS. His early belief in Christianity, the "Good Life", seems to have moved and motivated him into a great churchman. After moving to Kosciusko he united with First Baptist Church where he served faithfully in many capacities. He served as a Deacon, Director of the Baptist Training Union, Sunday School Treasure, and President of the Christian union Singing Convention until his death.
He served in the U. S. Army during World War II.
He was married to Miss Inez Haynes.
He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted wife, Mrs. Inez Haynes Alston; eight children; four boys and four girls; Mr. Pelmer Alston, Jr., Mr. Willie Alston, Mr. Joseph R. Alston, and Mr. Perry Alston-Jackson, MS; Mrs. Mattie Alston Mitchell Chicago, IL; Mrs. Beverly Alston Jones Meridian, MS; Miss Angelia Alston Kosciusko, MS; and Miss Mary Alston Jackson, MS; seven grandchildren, one brother, Mr. Buster E. Alston-Kosciusko, MS; two sisters, Mrs. Clemmie Green-Milwaukee, WI; and Mrs. Ida Bailey Kosciusko, MS; seven nephews, nine nieces, and many other relatives and friends.
