A lifetime resident of the Tri-Cities, Ernie passed away February 26th in Kennewick.
He was born February 17, 1922 in Richland, to Theodor and Kathrina Abken.

A WWII veteran, Ernie was employed when younger at the Owen's wheat ranch in the Horse Heaven Hills, Brick's Super Service gas station in Kennewick and at Richland Transfer & Storage as a truck driver. He worked for Neil F. Lampson as a dispatcher for 25 years until retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon; daughter, Diana Abken, Post Falls, ID; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Bryant Grenz, Spangle, WA; grandson, Marine Sgt. Ben Maplethorpe, Alexandria, VA; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Kim and Mark Swedberg, Port Orchard, WA; stepson Ken Bowles and cherished granddaughter Desiree Bowles of Kennewick, WA; sisters Melva Mitchell, Kennewick, WA, Mary Jane Snyder, Seattle, WA; Elsie (Walt) Hyrkas, Nampa, ID; brother, Ted Abken, White Salmon, WA; numerous nieces and nephews.

Ernie is preceded in death by his sisters, Anne Owens, Margaret Felton and Dorothy Higley, brothers, Louie Abken, Martin Abken and William "Bill" Abken.

At Ernie's request, there will be no service.
